| Dan Pifer |
The 2006 season brought with it another change at the
coaching helm as Matt Land left the organization to take the head coach position at Tri-State University in Angola, IN. His
successor would be Dan Pifer, who had served as an assistant coach under Land the previous year.
The team struggled
both on and off the field in 2006, finishing with a 4-11 record and grumblings about the lack of financial responsibility
from the ownership. The teams four wins came against Sioux City (6-10), Bloomington (5-10) and Ohio Valley (6-9) twice. The
Freedom did put up a fight to eventual champion Sioux Falls Storm in a 44-47 overtime loss at the Memorial Coliseum.

| Scott Heighland breaks up a pass. |
Top Performers
Despite the team's disappointing record, there were
a few players who managed to shine. Defensively, DB's Michael Hanley and Scott Heighland led the team. Hanley racked up
a team leading 73 total tackles and 11 pass break-ups while Heighland was hot on his heels with 71 total tackles and 16 pass
break-ups.
WR Adrian Reese again stepped up for the offense with 66 catches for 676 yards and 13 touchdowns. And
despite many teams trying to kick away from him, he racked up 77 kickoff returns for a league best, 1,359 yards. He led the
league in all-purpose yardage with 2,097 and an average of 139.8 yards per game.
