FW Indoor Football History

New owner, new league.

Following the 2006 season, Jeremy Golden purchased the Fort Wayne Freedom assets from Richard Coffey and placed his new franchise in the AF2. A new era begins for indoor football and gets off to a rough start. For the second time in as many years, the team struggled both on and off the field with grumblings about the lack of financial responsibility from ownership.

On the flip side, AFL's "Greatest Player," (Touchdown Eddie Brown) was off and running through his first few games. Brown kicked off 2007 with wins over Green Bay, and Spokane Shock (both participants in the 2006 Arena Bowl) at home and started out his first AF2 head coaching job with a 2-1 record. Mounting injurys and player turnover quickly took it's toll on thie young team as Fort Wayne endured a four game losing streak until winning a home game versus the Vipers. Fort Wayne went 4 and 4 at home, missed the playoffs and finished with an over all record of 5-11, Midway through the season af2 terminated Jeremy Golden as owner of the franchise and finished the season under league control. Once the season concluded af2 shut down the franchise.
